Mechanism

L-theanine is an amino acid found almost exclusively in tea (Camellia sinensis). It readily crosses the blood-brain barrier and modulates inhibitory neurotransmitter activity, increasing alpha brain wave (8-12 Hz) power - the EEG signature of relaxed, focused alertness.
